Towards a Broader View of Theory of Computing

چکیده
Beginning with the projectively invariant method for linear programming, interior point methods have led to powerful algorithms for many difficult computing problems, in combinatorial optimization, logic, number theory and non-convex optimization. Algorithms for convex optimization benefitted from many pre-established ideas from classical mathematics, but nonconvex problems require new concepts. Lecture series I am presenting at the conference on Foundations of Computational Mathematics, 2014, outlines some of these concepts– computational models based on the concept of the continuum, algorithms invariant w.r.t. projective , bi-rational , and bi-holomorphic transformations on co-ordinate representation, extended proof systems for more efficient certificates of optimality, extensions of Grassmanns extension theory, efficient evaluation methods for the effect of exponential number of constraints , theory of connected sets based on graded connectivity, theory of curved spaces adapted to the problem data, and concept of relatively algebraic sets in curved space. Since this conference does not have a proceedings, the purpose of this article is to provide the material being presented at the conference in more widely accessible form.

Resource Based View: A Promising New Theory for Healthcare Organizations; Comment on “Resource Based View of the Firm as a Theoretical Lens on the Organisational Consequences of Quality Improvement”
This commentary reviews a recent piece by Burton and Rycroft-Malone on the use of Resource Based View (RBV) in healthcare organizations. It first outlines the core content of their piece. It then discusses their attempts to extend RBV to the analysis of large scale quality improvement efforts in healthcare. Some critique is elaborated. The broader question of why RBV seems to be migrating into ...
متن کاملLevinas\'s Ethical Theory of the other and Its Implications on Education
Background: Modern subject-based philosophy, in which everything reduces to the whole, reduces to the Other to I, or emanates it from the realm of knowledge, ignores the differences, currently cannot answer to ethics. Levinas, as a philosopher who has a concern about the “Other", believes that there is no subject that needs to be known, and the other is "Self" in advance and is touched rather t...
متن کاملComputing local coefficients via types and covers: the example of $SL(2)$
We illustrate a method of computing Langlands-Shahidi local coefficients via the theory of types and covers. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate a method of computing the Langlands-Shahidi local coefficients using the theory of types and covers.
متن کاملComputing the Matrix Geometric Mean of Two HPD Matrices: A Stable Iterative Method
A new iteration scheme for computing the sign of a matrix which has no pure imaginary eigenvalues is presented. Then, by applying a well-known identity in matrix functions theory, an algorithm for computing the geometric mean of two Hermitian positive definite matrices is constructed. Moreover, another efficient algorithm for this purpose is derived free from the computation of principal matrix...
متن کاملKnowledge Mobilization in Healthcare Organizations: A View from the Resource-Based View of the Firm
This short literature review argues that the Resource-Based View (RBV) school of strategic management has recently become of increased interest to scholars of healthcare organizations. RBV links well to the broader interest in more effective Knowledge Mobilization (KM) in healthcare. The paper outlines and discusses key concepts, texts and authors from the RBV tradition and gives recent example...
